Britax Boulevard CS Convertible Car Seat

If you like the Boulevard Covertible Car Seat, you will fall in love with the Boulevard CS! This convertible car seat has an added feature; the click & safe harness adjuster. The adjuster actually clicks when the harness straps are snug, as an audible aide to help determine when the harness is snugly secure. The quick-adjust headrest and harness allows for repositioning of the head support and harness height effortlessly without having to rethread the straps. This convertible car seat allows for rear facing from 5-35 lbs and forward facing from 1 year up to 65 lbs. Rear- and forward-facing recline for child comfort and positioning. The Boulevard CS features True Side Impact Protection which distributes crash forces, shields from vehicle intrusion, contains the head and body, and minimizes side-to-side head movement. The patented Harness Ultra Guard System, HUGS, reduces forward head movement and gently cushions the neck and chest. The tangle-free, five-point harness with multiple harness heights  and lift-lever front adjustment allows for a snug and secure fit. The patented Versa-Tether anchors the top of the seat to minimize movement in a crash. Premium push-button LATCH connectors allow for a quick, simple, and tight installation. High density comfort foam gently cushions the child. The Boulevard CS features energy-managing protective foam and a body pillow for a custom fit. Built-in lock-offs tightly secure the vehicle seat belt. Convenient belt holders keep the harness straps to the sides while placing your child in the car seat. The plush, washable cover comes with matching comfort and belly pads and the contoured base is a perfect fit in most vehicles.

 "How does it perform in a car crash..." 2010-02-17
By David Norman
There are kwirks to this car seat. One, for example, is that the buckle is way up, snug in the crotch. It looks like it would probably make a boy uncomfortable. However, my 1yr old girl was buckled into this seat, rear-facing using LATCH during a ~40mph accident and is fine.

I think the result speaks for itself.

One note that someone else mentioned - if you regularly use the tensioning feature to loosen and re-tighten the belt, don't trust the clicking noise that's supposed to signify that it is snug. I very frequently found that it would click when the belt was obviously flapping around, very loose. Use your brain and *check* the tension after it clicks. Just because it clicks doesn't mean you can't cinch it down more.

I'll be replacing this seat with an Advocate CS.

I am very happy with my purchase of this particular carseat and so is my son. I did my research and had asked questions on carseat forums.

 "Great seat, but I don't trust CS to gauge accurate tension" 2009-12-25
By Donald Williams (Chicago, IL)
Overall, this is an excellent car seat and we're glad we chose it. We chose Britax because they continue to be a leader in child safety (we did considerable research). And we chose this specific model because of the superior side impact protection. However, I don't find the Click & Safe (CS) feature of this seat worth the extra money over the standard model. An overview of pros and cons as I see them:

PROS

* Superior protection/safety

* Well designed seat

* Easy installation - the directions are attached to the seat so you can't lose them and are easy to follow

* Durable fabric used

* Decent padding for child's comfort

* Strap height very easy to adjust as child grows

* Easy to buckle and unbuckle - easy in/out for the child

* The cowmooflage pattern is pretty cool (and works for both boys and girls)

CONS

* CS feature doesn't seem accurate - this is the biggest con. After buckling the child in, you pull the strap to create the right amount of tension on the 5-point harness. The CS feature is supposed to click when you have the straps tight enough. However, our seat clicks while there is still too much give (over an inch) in the shoulder straps, and is even less accurate when she's wearing a winter coat. Straps should be snug (not tight) to the body. If we were to stop when the seat clicked, the straps would be too loose. In my opinion, the CS feature is not worth the extra money.

* The straps sometimes get twisted in the harness buckle and it takes a couple minutes to straighten them out (not a big issue).

* Price is higher than a lot of competing brands, but Britax is a leader in safety.

 "Don't Pay Extra for the Click and Safe Feature" 2009-12-15
By Roo 2010 (Chicago)
We've had this car seat for about 8 months now for my 16 month old daughter. Save a few bucks and buy the regular Boulevard. The Click and Safe feature does not work. I'm surprised this seat hasn't been recalled because if you actually relied on when the seat clicks to tell you when the belts are tight enough, you'd be leaving your child dangerously unsecured. The problem appears to get worse with the cold. The belts do not tighten freely now that it's winter. I have to stand up in the car and pull multiple times with all my might to get them secured listening to click after click the whole time (and no, the belts aren't twisted).

In general the seat is nice with the exception of the belts not tightening in cold weather but difficult belts are a huge pet peeve of mine so it probably bugs me more than it would others. Britax is generally good and that's really my only two complaints about the car seat. Other than that, it seems to work well which is why I'd say go with the regular Boulevard.

 "Good seat, but has major design flaw" 2009-12-13
By M. Hendricks
We've been pretty happy with the seat up until now. My son has been in this car seat for about two years. A few weeks ago, we started having problems tightening the restraints/buckles. After examining the seat (keep in mind my husband is an engineer) we saw a place behind the seat where the belt catches on an exposed metal piece, which makes it difficult to completely tighten the child restraint.

Since safety is the reason we paid $$$ for this seat, I feel short-changed. What good are all the safety features and ratings if I can't tighten the belt?

I'm currently on-line trying to find out if anyone else has had this problem. My next step is to contact the company.
