I bought the travelmate for a trip I was going to be taking alone with my 11 month old over Christmas. It was truly a life saver at the airport. I put it together myself when it first arrived and took it apart a few times to make sure I knew how to work it while at the airport. It was really easy to put together and take apart (I have the Britax Marathon seat). It fit great with the seat and my son loved riding in it at the airport. At the Detroit airport it looked like the X-ray machine was going to be too small for the seat to fit with the travelmate, so I simply asked the agent if they could wand it and it was no problem. At the Houston airport the whole device fit through the X-ray without having to even take the wheels off (which is really easy anyway). I purchased the Go Go Kidz car seat travel bag too and simply put the car seat with the travelmate still on into the bag at the gate, and then wheeled the whole thing up to the plane where I gate checked it(the bag has holes for the wheels). Instead of a diaper bag I brought a backpack and it all truly left my hands free to do whatever I needed to. This is a great device. I can't imagine lugging the heavy car seat through the airport. I don't think we will ever travel without it again.

My son claims this Christmas gift was a blessing for getting through the airport with all the luggage taken for international travel. He had no complaints and was very happy to have this.

We found this a godsent when we traveled to Jamaica in APril 2009 with my then 2 years 3 month old daughter. It was easy to put together and attache or Britax carseat. We had the Britax Roundabout and had no issues with airport with the size of the carseat. The wheels popped off easy for security check and we never had any issues of unintentional pop off of wheels others have described. We didn't have any issues with security- we flew from JFK airport. Our daugher enjoyed riding in it and when she didn't want to ride it was great for piling on small bags and purses so you didn't have to carry them. It wheels very easily and turns great and is very useful. Not sure why others did not like it, maybe they had older models?

First of all, I couldn't have gotten through my trip traveling alone with my baby without this. Having said that, I also couldn't have attached it without the kindness of strangers. My husband and I did a trial run. I thought I had it figured out, then in the chaos of rental car return, crying baby and managing luggage I found the design of the the ski-boot like straps to be really difficult. Also, why did they create the car seat to sit on a 2 inch lip? Mine kept slipping off but luckily no harm as my baby was only a few inches off the floor and it only meant his car seat dragged on the floor of the airport until I fixed it - repeatedly. I think the 2.0 will be much better and I'll buy it for the next baby.

This is a fabulous product. I read several reviews and did a lot of research before I bought this product. It lives up to the good reviews. I just used this for a trip from CA to FL. I was traveling alone with my 16 mo. old daughter. I could not have done it without the Travelmate. Like many of the reviews indicated, when going through airport security, I simply asked for the "stroller" to be hand-wanded so I did not have to remove the Travelmate from the car seat. Security was very nice and did so with no problem. I was able to wheel my daughter on to the plane, store the Travelmate in the overhead bin (she always flies in her car seat for safety) and attach the Travelmate to her car seat before getting off the plane. The new ratchet system for attaching the Travelmate to the car seat is ingenious and very easy to use. (I practiced at home a few times before the trip.) This product is worth the money.
1/12/10 Update-Getting through security/TSA: We have now taken 3 flights with this product. The Orlando, FL (MCO) and St. Paul, Minn.(MSP) airports would not perform a hand wand when I requested one but my Britax car seat fit through the security conveyer belt with the Travelmate ATTACHED. This product is a lifesaver.
