"Love a lot about it, but it's only OK." 2010-09-14
By Amazon Reviewer
First, I love a lot about this seat. It is made of wonderful material that is breathable and every single piece of it comes apart so that you can wash it, which is a huge plus when you have a little one with reflux. However, overall the seat is only okay and possibly dangerous.

The latch that secures the shoulder strap in front of the child's chest is flimsy. It is a regular latch like you might find on a dog collar or closing a backpack, which would be fine if it was made of really hard plastic and gave a nice, loud "click" when it was properly engaged, but it isn't and it doesn't. It latches together with only a faint "click" sound and after months of use that sound went away. I took it off to clean it thinking it must be clogged with milk and when I was holding it in my hands I realized that if I pulled really hard the latch came undone! I called Peg Perego to get a new one and that one did the same thing so I have stopped using the seat. I am not a super strong woman, and I would think that me pulling in either direction on the latch should not be enough force to separate it. If it can be that easily separated by hand, how would it perform in an accident?

"Safe seat with just a few minor issues." 2010-06-22
By Patrick J. Finley
So far we love the seat. I'll do a list of pros and cons.

Pro:

Love the very high quality fabrics and materials on the car seat.

Love the consumer reports high crash test rating. The side impact pads are a big bonus.

The car seat base attaches quickly and easily to the car using the latch system.

The seat straps are very quickly and easily adjustable.

Con:

It's heavy, but I suppose a 30lb car seat will be heavier.

The baby shade awning lines up directly with the carry handle. It makes it tough get your hand under it to pick it up.

 "Very Coveted!" 2009-11-01
By H. Mcpherson
My son and daughter in law researched every car seat they could as first time parents. This was their choice for safety and this particular pattern, for looks. It's an early Christmas present because their baby is due in January. They're taking it to parenting classes for proper installation techniques. I know they'll be thrilled because this one was the winner for carrying their precious cargo.

 "Peg makes it happen!" 2009-08-23
By NuNu Mom in NJ (The Oranges, NJ)
I enjoy the Peg, my Girlfriend purchased the car seat with an additional base for my car and my husband's car. We have not had any issues yet and our daughter is almost 6 months old. I like the moisture away fabric for the Peg. I also really like the fact that the fabric has some kind of scotch guard protection. My husband and I went on a 7 hour car trip and our daughter who had made a mess that got on everything and it was very easy to wipe the seat down without leaving any stains.

The only drawback to a very safe car seat is that it does take a minute to buckle your child that is credited for the 5 point harness so this is understandable. I guess the only real drawback is that the carrier is awkward to carry. However the awkwardness with any car seat is there no matter the manufacturer. I have four "sister girls" who are new Mom's in my circle and we each have different carriers. Each of us have complained about carrying the child in the carriers we have.

Overall I would highly reccommend the Viaggio.

"Extraordinary Car Seat - Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30" 2009-07-02
By C. Williams (Sacramento, CA)
When shopping for my Peg, I read many online reviews in my effort to purchase the best and safest seat for my son. After discovering for myself what a fantastic product this is, I was infuriated by all of the negative reviews that gave me any doubt or hesitation before my purchase. I think too often those who are complainers are the only ones to go back and leave negative comments on product reviews. Satisfied customers mostly just move on and never take the time to come back and deliver compliments. SO, here I am! Two main concerns that threw me off initially from purchasing the Peg were from negative reviews online regarding weight, and the "horse blinders" that are side impact protection in this seat. To those who really believe this seat is too heavy - hit the gym, you are wimps! This seat is NOT significantly heavier than any other car seat on the market. Do as I did, and visit a retailer who sells the seat, and try picking up a Graco Snugride (very common) and the Peg side by side. You will not be able to tell a difference in weight. One thing you will be able to tell right away between these two is a significant difference in quality. The Graco felt flimsy, shallow, had very little padding in the cushions and overall was not near as well constructed or safe as the Peg. The Peg has very solid construction, beautiful fabrics, comfortable seat and an easy to use three point harness system. To those who complain about it getting tangled, get a grip! Simply grabbing the strap at the top behind the shoulder and moving down each time will avoid this problem. The latches that secure the harness consist of one easy snap together latch in the center of the chest, and a nice, solid one button press connector that goes between the legs. I honestly cannot understand people who cannot figure this out. Regarding the "horse blinders", my son is not bothered by them at all, his head fits just fine at 4 months, and he seems to feel secure and tucked in, and falls asleep in the seat on car rides. Babies like to feel secure, not left to hang out in the open. The safety factor in this design is invaluable. I would never consider putting my child in anything less to protect his precious little head. Think about it, is that little padded donut that you have to lay in the head space of a Graco to hold the infant's head up going to protect them from a side impact? Absolutely not. Another advantage of the Peg, you do not need that silly donut head support at all.

There was a comment regarding a problem with a plastic piece having sharp edges. This was corrected in 2008 by a recall and is no longer an issue. All seats manufactured since then do not have this problem.

Other things I love about the Peg - it snaps easily in and out of the base in the car, and into the Bugaboo, the Bob, and the Pliko P3 effortlessly. Also, the three point harness is easily adjusted by one single strap and spring latch at the front center of the seat. Simply press the latch and adjust the strap as your child grows.

I highly recommend the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30. I couldn't be happier with this product. For the extra money, it is definitely worth the peace of mind in safety and quality.

 "Frustrated with this seat" 2009-06-03
By T. Livingston (Torrance, CA United States)
I bought this seat b/c I know Peg Perego has a good reputation and I wanted a seat that went to 30 lbs. I am now regretting this purchase. Some of the problems I have had with this carseat are (1) It is really heavy to carry around with a child in it. (2) The chest clip on my carseat has broken twice. The place where I bought the seat has replaced it both times, but a chest clip should not break twice in 3 months. (3) I am now having trouble disengaging the car seat from the base. I usually have to try multiple times before I am successful.

 "Just ok" 2010-03-12
By julybaby715
For the price, I wish I liked it better...but I have to admit, I don't =( The biggest problem for me is the straps. They twist so easily and its really difficult to twist back, I don't understand it. Its very annoying when you are pressed for time and you discover the straps are twisted. You end up wasting a lot of time untwisting. It is a heavy, bulky seat but I was already aware of that when I purchased it. My daughter is now 20lbs and with the weight of the seat, I struggle to carry her in the seat. In fact, I avoid it at all cost because I feel like i'm going to fall over every time.

The material is soft and easy to clean. She does get very hot in it though. The base/car seat combination is simple and easy to use. I struggle getting the car seat to easily latch to my Peg Perego Pliko P3 stroller. I really do like the simple designs and colors of the car seat, I hate the way Graco car seats look.

They are plenty of other car seats that are comparable in safety standards and are cheaper and easier to use. If I had to do it all over again, I would of never bought this travel system. Normally you get what you pay for but with this, I feel slightly cheated =(

"Reviews are right. Very Disapointed!" 2010-03-06
By Jennifer (FL)
We bought the Peg Perego Uno Stroller and LOVE it...so we also purchased the carseat to go with it. This car seat is heavy and bulky. Not easy to lift and my son has hated it since the day we took him home from the hospital! I agree with the other person who wrote that they curse every time they use it. It is very difficult to latch and the BELTS TWIST ALL THE TIME!!! It is just a pain in the butt. I think I used the "travel system" option twice because that was a freakin pain too. Very disapointed and hope that others look for other safe car seats and next time I will read the reviews!!!!

"Regret this purchase with every use" 2010-02-15
By Lana Rifkin (Louisville, KY)
I bought this car seat thinking that it was the absolute safest thing out there and was thus willing to overlook its ridiculous weight. Now, it seems that Consumer Reports has other options (the Chicco KeyFit 30) that have the same (if not better) safety rating and MUCH better overall score (not to mention $100 cheaper...)

My #1 complaint is that the belt is really hard to use...especially with a squirmy child who is not very happy about being strapped in...it takes forever to get the snaps into place. I seriously curse it every time.

My baby is 12mo now and about 23 lbs and she's getting too big for it (her feet have to almost straddle the seat!)...but she is pretty tall...We're ready for a convertible seat now.

I may keep this one around as a spare for the next kid, but would not recommend it.

"Couldn't wait to get rid of it." 2010-02-12
By Urban Mom (United States)
I purchased this seat for my first child. I was warned that it was heavy and sat very upright but went ahead and purchased it to go with my Bugaboo because it seemed like the nicest seat out there. Big mistake. My daughter hated it from the get go. She sat very upright in it and her head seemed to flop forward before she was able to hold her head up (she literally looked like she was sitting straight up and down). Everytime we went somewhere she screamed. I borrowed my friend's Graco to see if it was the seat and sure enough, she sat in more of a cradle position in the Graco and was quiet as a mouse. She got used to it as she got older but then the weight factor came in. This seat is so heavy that by the time she was 6 months old (and still a peanut at 13 pounds) I could barely lift it in and out of the car. I'm a runner and in pretty good shape so there's no reason I should have had trouble lifting it. I could not get rid of this seat fast enough and now have a Maxi Cosi for my second child that I love (super light weight and cradles the baby).

Pros:

1. It is definitely a sturdier seat than the Maxi Cosi and Gracos. It's made of quality materials (sturdier plastics) so I can see why it's heavy.

2. I liked that I could just wipe the fabric since it's not a cloth material. I didn't have to take the cover off and wash it if my baby threw up. That said, I used the seat during the fall and winter. My girlfriend had the same seat (she lives in Georgia) and said the nylon fabric got super hot in the summer because it doesn't breath like the cloth fabrics do so it may not be a pro for some people.

3. The seat is very cushy; lots of padding.

Cons:

1. My daughter couldn't see around the black wings so she was always looking forward and not to the side or out the window. I'm sure she didn't know the difference but I always felt like she was in a straight jacket. Again, she was small though so perhaps if you have a bigger baby this wouldn't be a problem.

2. As I mentioned, the weight. It says you can use it up to 30 pounds but that really doens't do you any good because you wouldn't be able to lift it. I can't imagine carrying this thing around with a 30 pound baby (plus a 30 pound baby would be too long for it). I ended up switching my daughter to a convertible Britax at 7 months so really I got hardly any use out of it. I used to get so upset when I'd see other people carrying their almost 1 year old kids around in lighter weight carriers.

3. The sunshade is a joke. Most other seats have sunshades that can be pulled forward for more protection.

One other thing to note. I often read on reviews that "this is the safest car seat out there". I am not sure where people are getting that information. Thanks to a good friend we were able to retain reports from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's crash labs and while this seat did test well, it received the exact same rankings as the Britax and Maxi Cosi seats.

"made in italy - NOT CHINA" 2010-01-11
By Jaime C. Facchino (charlotte nc)
i bought the preg perego for the only reason it was made in italy and not china. as an italian, i felt like i was helping 'mi familia' - prego!! ok, i am only 1/2 italian and can only do mob accents, but i have to say i absolutely love this car seat and the stroller that we bought w/it. i am on my second son, and over the last 3.5 years, both the car seat and the stroller are a beast. i think the wife and i will try for 3 next year (but since i am 1 yr from 40, idk!!) and if we do, i know it will easily last for #3. we spent a lot of money on the prego's, but our goal was to give it to a young couple when we were done. a way to pay it forward and i can rest easily knowing it kept my kids safe and now someone elses.. God bless america and those hard working italians back in italy making my family safe.

 "Works fine." 2009-10-30
By TP (Chicago)
For any multi-car family, it's great to have a spare car seat base for the convenience. There's not much to say about features, except that it does the job, `nuff said!

The seat is a little pricey, but if you shelled out for the Peg Perego infant seat, you probably knew what you were getting into. Despite the price, I'd definitely buy it again.

Made in Italy, good craftsmanship.

Over 80% of infant car seats are installed incorrectly. Do your baby and yourself a favor and have your car seat installation inspected by an NHTSA-certified inspector. Find a free inspection location at [...] I used the site to find a local police station with an NHTSA-certified officer that verified the installation for both my family cars.
