I had purchased two of these units from WalMart and had found a serious problem. Both units fail after adjusting the harness adjustment strap (pg. 8 of instruction book). The failure is this, after an adjustment is made, the harness release lever fails to cinch down tight enough on the harness adjustment strap to prevent slippage of the strap. I have made adjustments then placed my arm in the harness and pulled the harness adjustment strap loose enough to cause serious compromise to occupant safety. I have repeated this several times on both seats. Since contacting Consumers Reports, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Dorel Juvenile Group (manufacturer of the seats) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Dorel Juvenile Group agreed to send me two more seats in exchange for the defective seats. I received the two replacement seats February 1, 2010. Upon inspection, I immediately noticed one of the two seats exhibits the same failure as the original two seats. I find this alarming as I now am experiencing 75% failure rate on a car seat model that is top rated.

I bought this item quite a while ago, but decided not to review until I've formed my opinion on it. Well, after a recent accident, I've formed my opinion: it does it's job, and it does it well.
I was stopped at a red light when my Subaru Impreza wagon was hit in the back by a Dodge Ram that was going about 25 miles an hour. The impact blew out the rear window and destroyed the rear section of the car. All in all the car took $5000 worth of damage. But I don't care about that. The only thing that matters is that my 17 month old son was totally unhurt. Not only was he okay, but he didn't even get upset. You can only imagine my relief when I looked back to check on him and saw that he was still in his seat and was absolutely fine.
So yes, this seat gets 5 stars from me.
PS. It's fairly easy to remove and place in another car, as I learned by putting it in the rental. Additionally, my kid loves the arm handles.

We graduated our 16 month old into these seats.. seat is very easy to install; very neatly fitting in my RX. Best of all, he likes it.
The reason for only 4.5 is,
1. Headrest is all but useless for the height of the 16 month old.
2. Could have used a bit more cushioning on the sides - so when he falls asleep on his seat, it will be a bit more comfy for the li'l guy.
Most value for the money and we are generally satisfied.
(Bought another one for the C Class, I will update the post on fit in a compact car after this weekend)

Carseat is ok. The plastic guards around the strap holes have come loose, the tightening mechanism is broken already and I haven't had it 4 months. This would be a good extra carseat to have or for grandma who doesn't pick up too often.

Seat would be loose about 5 inches and would not tighten further on my Infinity G35x. Tried with all my might to tighten belt to no avail. Item was returned. I recommend Graco Nautilus seat because of better quality. instead.
