"does ok job to let me keep eye on kid in back seat" 2010-07-16
By A.M.
My wife threw away the instructions before i got a chance to install it so it took me a awhile to figure out how it goes on. It turns out that its not too hard, worst part is tightening (shortening) the rubber strap at the hooks.

I had problems hooking the plastic hooks on the bottom of my mirror because I have a fat rear view mirror (with built in compass) but i was able to make it work.

At first I found that it was too loose and wobbles too much to be useful, but there's a screw on the back at the joint that you can tighten to make it more stable. After I tightened that screw, the mirror doesn't wobble at all anymore.

Also the mirror is cheap and distorts the image somewhat but is usable. (well heck, its a fairly inexpensive product). The mirror surface is a little convex to allow a greater field of view but I think it also causes the image to seem a little dimmer. The demonstration photo on the website/package is way too sharp and bright to be true.

Despite its shortcomings, still fairly satisfied with the product.

 "Not worth a dime!" 2009-10-26
By Melissa S. Taylor (Lexington, KY)
I managed to install the thing after 20 minutes and throwing away the horrible directions on the back of the box. Then, when I tried to flip it back "out of sight," it only went about 1/2 way and still blocked my view. Also, the mirror seems to be a sticker so the view is distorted. I'll be returning this item and looking for something else!

By D. Lettich (PA)
I agree with Becky. After breaking my The First Years mirror that clipped on my rearview I went looking for a new one and this flip down mirror was the closest thing I could find. It stinks! It's nearly impossible to install and blocks too much of my view while driving. I'm returning it. Hey Becky I found a replacment First Years mirror on ebay! I know that one is well worth the price.

I just recently broke my car child mirror by First Years which I LOVED and I quickly purchased the Flip-Down Child view mirror. It is horrible! The mirror distorts the image like a fun-house mirror and it doesn't stay in place.

 "Needs improvment" 2008-02-12
By Candace Boatright (Tracy, CA USA)
I was wishing for the perfect larger pillow to keep my 3 & 5 year olds heads from dropping as they sleep, but it's not much different then the littler ones I purchased for them as babies. Biggest problem is I have no way to attachd the strap in my cars back seats the headrests are contoured with no metal bar or area I can connect the strap too. I tried the latches in the back that are up top and had no way to make that work either. I've tried things to hold it in place, but it slides around alot and really does not stop the head from flopping as I hoped. The idea is ok, but needs improvement.

This item was great. The only problem I have is that my car does not have head rests in the back seat, so I had to attatch it a little differently.

Other than that, I think it is a great product.

"The old version is better" 2009-11-21
By M. Meyers
I do not like any of the changes made between the original and the G2. We bought the como for my son 2 years ago and it is great so we wanted another one for the new baby. We saw that it had been updated so we ordered the new G2 version. Big mistake. The new harness is a pain to adjust and hard to tell that you have actually latched it right. The head padding is way too small. And the black fabric already looks like crap straight out of the box. Let alone when a little bit of baby spittle gets on it. No thank you. I will be returning this and ordering the old version while I still can.

First off this seat looks so comfortable I wish I could sit in it! My son easily falls asleep in it. Great detailed installation instruction manual. Fits great maybe alittle big but still great in our VW Rabbit 2006. I love the fact that a seat company that manufacturers racing seats has made my baby's car seat! I don't think a safer car seat is out there! And trust me I did my research!!! Who would be a better car seat maker than one that perfects racing seats who crash daily. I love this seat, I love this company and I've never heard one negative crash test!

"Great seat with some drawbacks" 2009-12-22
By K. Szabo (Ohio)
We've tried our Signo G2 rear-facing in the center position in a Civic (compact), Prius (midsize), Frontier (4-door truck), and Murano (crossover SUV). Our 15 month old is 31" tall and 22 lbs; a bit smaller than "average."

CONS:

*He has no leg room in the rear-facing position in all of these vehicles; knees are always bent too much.

*Due to the huge base, the seat sits very high, so it's hard to get him in and out without hitting his head in the Prius. Couldn't even get him into the seat in a Civic.

*Belts get twisted (for my wife) and are hard to smooth out while trying to get him strapped in. After removing the child, straighten the belts and use the convenient belt-clip pockets.

*Need to place a rolled up towel under the base (per the manual) in an attempt to get more leg room, or create a safe angle.

*Hard to get more slack in the Latch belts when moving the seat from car to car.

PROS:

*Latch straps are permanently attached to bars on each side of the seat. You can't appreciate how convenient this is until you get frustrated with the stupid design on the Sunshine Kids Radian 65SL. But that's another review.

*Shoulder strap height is adjusted by turning knobs on the back of the seat. Also 100 times better than the Sunshine Kids' complicated system.

*I've read that it's the safest seat out there (German design?).

*Very plush and appears to be very comfortable. Much more padding and head protection than the Sunshine Kids.

*So snug, it feels like part of the vehicle. (Sunshine Kids has a little too much play).

*Easier to choose this model than going through the 20 or so Britax options. With Britax, every seat is missing something you need, until you get to the most expensive model. The Signo G2 seems to have everything that the most expensive Britax has. No "pick your options" games with Recaro.

*The huge base does keep all the belts neat and tidy (Sunshine Kids has belts hanging all over the place). This larger base also allows him to see out the windows.

ONE MORE PRO: If you don't think customer service has a place in a product review, skip this last one:

*Recaro's customer service is Excellent! I found a toll free # (not the one in their manual). There was no menu to navigate through, and the call was answered within 2 or 3 rings. We purchased the original Signo, there was a slight problem, they again answered the phone promptly and sent a new G2 immediately. Alternately, I emailed Sunshine Kids a relatively simple question; they never responded.

**Update, 1/20/10: I've increased my rating from 3 to 4 stars after seeing many other cheap plastic seats that seem to weigh about 5 lbs. The Recaro is heavy, sturdy and secure. Switching to forward-facing solved the "no legroom dilemma," but it's still hard to get him in and out in any vehicle since it sits so high. The belt system is awesome compared to the mangled web of belts on the Sunshine Kids, all of which are difficult to adjust.

 "best car seat!" 2010-01-17
By L. Nguyen
Been using this car seat for about 3 years now. Still looks good. I really like the side wings for my daughter when she falls asleep. Its now converted to a booster seat. Very easy to buckle her in. The five point harness was taken out when she outgrew it. Only carseat I will use. Only con is that the cushion is very thin, but I only had to put some foam under the cushion and that fixed it.

 "Best seat I've seen" 2009-12-21
By Alberto Rojas (Santiago, Chile)
This car seat has everything you need: ISOFIX/LATCH, EPS foam, 5-point harness, nice padded surfaces, very easy to use. It has a quality feel to it that no other seat we looked at had. I love it and more important, my daughter loves it. It's very versatile and will grow with my daughter for many years.

It's a little heavy if you're going to move it from one car to the other. But the latching mechanism is by far the best out there, with a one-click disengage function. No more blindly trying to take those ugly hooks off!

I even like the big Recaro logos! Very recommended. The seat dropped more than USD 40 this year, presumably because new models are out. I haven't tried those, but I think this one looks better, and is cheaper than the new top of the range model.

We purchased one of these seats for our now 3yr old son back when he made the jump from his infant seat. He never had any problems sitting in it and last year when we made a cross country trip he never once complained about discomfort while awake or after being asleep.

It is easy to take apart and clean and just as easy to put back together.

We now have 2 of these seats (1 in each car) and don't regret the purchases one bit!

"DO NOT BUY RECARO - HEAD REST FOAM LINER DEFECTIVE - NO RETURNS OR REPAIRS GIVEN!!!" 2009-09-18
By O. robles (Chicago, IL USA)
We own two Recaro Young Sport car seat and for the past year we have noticed that on both seats the foam liner on either side of the head rest is crumbling apart.

We notified Recaro about the problem and how it may be a safety issue.

Their resolution to this problem was to send us two replacement foam liners and instructions

on how to hot glue them (Yes, they want us to use hot melt glue) in our home. I am not making

this up, I have email correspondence from Recaro North America customer support stating that

they will not take the seats back and that the only thing they will do is send us some foam liners

and have us do the work on our own.

This is suppossedly a high quality german car seat manufacturer and when I read their resolution to this issue I was in total disbelief. In essence what their telling us is that yes you do have a faulty head rest system and we should do the repair on our own >> On such a safety conscious industry this hardly seems like a proper method of repair especially since it's hot glue and we're not experts at taking the seat apart and doing the repair reliably.

DO NOT BUY RECARO CHILDREN CAR SEATS!

I am in the process of submitting a child safety complaint to the NHTSA so they can take action on this manufacturer.

I hope this helps those that are trying to decide on finding a safe and reliable children car seat.

"Better after an easy modification" 2009-11-14
By Mike N. (Bay Area CA)
I bought this based upon the reviews of it's mounting. The wide view of all rear area is nice but the objects are small to see. For my needs, I only have one child to see. I ended up purchasing another mirror at a local baby store (also $2.99) - Safety 1st Front or Back Babyview Mirror 48919A. It turns out that its mirror is a direct fit for the American Red Cross mounting. You simply remove the ball/stem from the Safety First suction cup and snap it in the American Red Cross mount. If you feel the stem is too long, you can also snip it shorter. Now I have a more magnified view of my one rear seat. Keep in mind it is still low quality mirror/reflective surface.

"Red Cross First Years Mirror" 2009-11-10
By Lorraine Sorensen (Longwood, Florida)
This is the BEST baby mirror. I first bought this type of mirror BEFORE the Red Cross put there name on the label. I look for years after to purchase another one. It is sooo simple to use, and it is a true mirror...not just a cheap piece of film. It is sooo reasonable priced too! My first mirror is still just as new as when I bought it almost 5 years ago, and with an autistic son, I do not plan on getting rid of it any time soon! THIS IS THE MIRROR TO BUY!!

Customer Buzz
"Couldn't Be Mounted on the Rear-View Mirror in My Car, But Made a Nice Visor-Mounted Mirror" 2009-10-16
By ReviewerWhoPrefersToBeAnonymous (California)
This inexpensive item consists of four pieces: (1) a plastic clip with a socket, (2) a plastic clip without a socket, (3) an elastic band to hold the clips together, and (4) the plastic convex (wide-angle) mirror itself (which measures about 4.5"x1.5" and has a ball on the back of it). Items #1-#3 are already connected to each other in the package, so it should be a simple process to attach the clips to your rear view mirror with the elastic, and then attach the mirror to the socket.

I would guesstimate that the clips can accommodate standard rear view mirrors with a depth of up to 3/4". Unfortunately, my car has a electrochromic one similar to CIPA 36500 Wedge Base Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror with Compass, Temperature and Map Light; it is about 1" in depth and furthermore has buttons underneath the "lip" that the bottom clip could interfere with. So this product couldn't be mounted on my rear view mirror.

Fortunately, I discovered that it can be mounted on sun visors. To reduce side-to-side movement, I chose to install one clip through the hole toward the far end (i.e., toward the middle of the car, where the visor can be attached to or detached from the ceiling). See Customer Image. To install this way, simply: (a) remove the elastic band from the clip without a socket, (b) push the "fingers" of the clip without a socket through the hole of the visor, (c) "thread" the elastic band through the hole, (d) re-attach the elastic band onto the hook of the clip without a socket, (e) stretch the elastic band and secure the clip with a socket to the free edge of the visor, and (f) attach the mirror to the socket. The advantages of installing on the visor are: (i) it does not interfere with forward vision, as would occur if the mirror is located under the rear view mirror, and (ii) it is a little closer to your head, so that the image is slightly larger than when mounted on the rear view mirror. As a disadvantage, when the visor is rotated too far outwards, the secondary mirror might reflect the sun into oncoming drivers' eyes.

In terms of optical quality, since the mirror is wide-angle and plastic, you're not going to get a "high resolution" image. However, it's good enough to see if your child is sleeping, has gotten food all over the back seat, etc. Buy this from Amazon.com!

 "functional, simple, cheap" 2009-09-17
By N. Clulow
Seems like the best option out there. Mirror gives a nice view of the back and I think it would work with almost

any rear view mirror, it installed very easily and securely on ours. The only issue is that it adjusts a little too easily.

If you bump it a little it's going to move, and I could imagine the plastic ball and socket where it moves from wearing

out over time...after a month of use it's still fine though and holds it's position. I fully endorse the product. Nice and cheap too!

CARES Child Aviation Restraint System

Buy Cheap CARES Child Aviation Restraint System

Buy Low Price From Here Now

CARES Kids Fly Safe aviation restraint is designed specifically for aviation use for children age 1 and older who weigh between 22 and 44 pounds. These youngsters are old enough to be in their own seats, but are too small for the seat belt alone to protect them. Their bodies cannot withstand the jolts that are common in routine transportation, much less emergency situations, and they flail forward or slide beneath the seat belt if they are not held securely in place.

Each year more and more young children fly. But until CARES Kids Fly Safe aviation restraint came along, what was missing was a convenient, hassle-free way to keep young flyers safe. Here's what makes CARES such an invaluable travel solution:

CARES Kids Fly Safe aviation restraint is the first and only aviation Child Safety Device to be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an alternative to a car seat.

CARES Kids Fly Safe aviation restraint is an elegantly designed belt-and-buckle device that works in conjunction with the regular airplane seat belt and provides young travelers the same level of safety as a car seat.

CARES Kids Fly Safe aviation restraint weighs just one pound and fits into a 6" stuff sack! It is easily portable, simple to install, adjustable to nearly every size airplane seat, and usable on any seat in the airplane, except in the emergency exit rows.

Need your car seat on the other end of the trip? Just check it through as luggage and carry CARES Kids Fly Safe aviation restraint on board in your pocket!

CARES is manufactured exclusively by AmSafe Aviation, the foremost manufacturer of aviation seatbelts and pilot restraints in the world. (Turn over your airplane seat belt buckle. Chances are it says AmSafe.)

CARES is made of the same industrial-strength webbing as your own seat belt and is engineered to the highest aviation-safety standards.

INCLUDES: Restraint, instruction card, instruction video on DVD, and travel bag.

"So much easier than lugging the car seat!" 2009-11-25
By Sara (WI USA)
It is rare that any product is perfect, and the CARES harness certainly has a couple of spots it could be improved upon. However, the ease of use in comparison to a car seat is worth any flaws it might have.

The pros:

-You don't have to lug your car seat through the airport, detach it from something like the Go Go Travelmate or the Traveling Toddler Car Seat Accessory in order to get through security, etc.

- Installing a car seat on an airplane puts your child in kicking range of the seat in front of you, the CARES harness (mostly) prevented my son's feet from reaching the seat in front of him.

-Easy to install on the plane seat. Slip it over the back, run the seat belt through the straps, and strap your child in. I was able to do this in under two minutes, flying alone with a toddler.

The cons:

-As other reviewers described, the chest clip location is not perfect. If you are not careful in installation it ends up aligning with the neck. I was able to get the chest clip in a better location, however.

-The red strap does not lie flush with the curved seat backs.

- Lack of leg straps means the child can slouch, messing with the positioning of the harness and also putting them in range of kicking the seat in front of them.

All in all, this product *is* overpriced for what it consists of, but given that it went through the process of FAA approval, it is worth it to not have to travel with a car seat. Improvements could be made, however.

"SUPERB product - so glad we bought it." 2009-11-17
By Jayne Lock
After reading reviews we were in two minds whether or not to bother with this - I'm SO glad we did! It worked exactly as we hoped it would.

We have just returned from a visit to UK with our 16-month old son and this worked perfectly for us. J is at the point where he will make short shrift of wriggling right out of my arms if he doesn't want to sit on my lap so we were not looking forward to taking our 'lap child' on an internal flight followed by a transatlantic flight with a long car drive at each end.

A few plus points:

1) J was traveling as a lap child so we did not want to haul his car seat with us only on the off chance of him even having a seat - the CARES harness slipped easily into our hand luggage. (As it happened we talked with the check-in attendant and on both journeys managed to get a whole row of 4 seats all to ourselves - for anyone who doesn't already do this, it's ALWAYS worth a lengthy chat about where they're trying to seat you both at check-in, at the gate and even once you're seated if the plane is clearly not full!).

2) The harness fitted easily and securely over the seat as per the instruction. Passengers behind us were not in the least bit bothered about the few seconds it took to slip it over the chair back and under their table.

3) We strapped J into it without him even batting an eye - I think he thought he was just being strapped in like he would be in his car seat and was very content to sit still.

4) It took only a minute or so to make sure the harness was properly adjusted and J seemed very comfy and content in it. On the long flights He happily remained in it all the way through taxiing and takeoff and the first drinks and meal service. However, since each time we had 2 empty seats between myself and my husband when it was 'bed/nap time' we lay J in between us in his long sleep sack (so I could sit on one end of it for extra security!) and with the normal lap belt wrapped around his middle. He was very happy to go back into the harness once he was up again and for the landing and taxiing.

5) J stayed in the harness for the whole of the last flight from Philly to Detroit and was more content than if he was being made to sit on my lap. We did go through some heavy turbulence and I was very glad to have him so securely strapped in. He barely moved.

No negatives as such but a few points of caution...

1) Despite the stated height and weight range children are supposed to be at least 2 years old to use this item. Since J is tall and heavy for his age we were happy to use it, and thankfully so were North West and US Airways.

2) Check with your airline to make sure they will allow you to use it, esp. if traveling outside the USA. In our experience with it on this one trip, North West were totally fine with it, US Airways were fine but did remind us he was supposed to be 2 even though they were happy for us to do what we preferred (their alternative is holding your child on the lap with no seat belt at all!), Lufthansa did not allow us to use it during taxiing, takeoff or landing (they insisted I hold him and we use an additional lap strap instead) but were okay with it's use during the flight.

3) Like any car seat or restraint, don't presume your child will be comfy enough to sleep whilst using it... more an issue of sitting upright than the harness itself. That said, if they sleep well enough in a car seat I can't see why they wouldn't with this.

4) Even if properly fitted the large adjusters/buckles on the front vertical straps may be uncomfortable for a child depending on how the harness fits them. I preempted this by taking the cosy covers off our stroller straps (JJ Cole velcro fastening ones) and placing them over the buckles. Jack was fine and may even have been fine without these but I felt it was nicer around his shoulder/neck/chin area to have the extra cushiness.

5) We did have to hitch J up a few times in his seat but this was nothing major and certainly no worse than if he was just using the lap belt.

All in all I would highly recommend this product to anyone flying with young children.

"For the most part, it's working" 2009-11-14

I bought this item in order not to carry a car seat with us on the plane. For the most part, it does the job. The only problem is that my son (3.5 years old) couldn't get comfortable when he was falling asleep (and I was really waiting for this moment so that we all can get a break). With no support, his head kept falling making him to wake up. I ended up stuffing his blanket behind his head just to give some sort of cushioning, but it was still hard to manage. Overall, it's a good item, especially on a short flight or for an older child who can entertain self.

 "Love this!" 2009-11-03

This harness has saved us so much aggravation and time, we love it and have loaned it to friends who love it. It makes flying soo much easier.

It's well made with the same strapping used for seat belts. Installation has been a piece of cake. Comes with a

handy carry bag, and weighs almost nothing. I recommend this to anyone with a toddler. It makes your little one feel like the pilot when they have to wear a harness.

The CARES restraint system is so handy. Much, much easier than packing a car seat through the airport!
