We purchased the maxi cosi mico as based on research on which infant seats are safe. We purchased the mico in phantom (black).
At first our baby HATED the seat. But maybe babies hate car seats in general? The base is easy to install in the car, and at first I also had some issues getting the car seat to click into the base. Silly me, it turns out that the tightening strap was getting in the way. Once this was moved to the side or up into the seat the base clicked in no problem at all.
Pros
Super light!! one of the lightest seats
Compared to e.g. Chicco, cotton seat cover = less sweaty baby
European design, sleek, lightweight
SAFE!
Cons
On the expensive side
Bit of a pain when you have to take the cover off to wash it. I couldnt get the bottom buckle cover back on again
The black seat gets H O T in summer. Summer covers are not available and the European accessories do NOT fit the US carseat.
My baby is 90th % for height at 5 months...she is the height of a 10 month old. She also weighs 18 pounds. We will be moving her into a convertible seat way earlier than planned. Her feet are starting to poke out over the edge of the mico and is getting a bit heavy for me to lift comfortably (but that would be the same in any car seat)
Overall: We love it, we would use it again and recommend it for others. And now my baby likes the seat too.

This is my first time writing a review but I have been compelled to do so with this car seat. I would like other parents to be aware of this car seat. We got this as a gift for my first son (2008). We endured using the car seat but once he was able to use a forward facing seat we jumped on it. Then we had our daughter shortly after and the memories of what we disliked about the seat arose.
If I had a choice I would NOT GET this car seat. My husband and I HATE this car seat. We would like to get a new one but feel like it's a waste of money because it keeps our daughter safe but you have to work at it.
1) The straps/harness are horrible to click together, even if she is wearing minimal clothes (thick clothes... forget about it! You'll find yourself removing your infants clothes while its freezing outside!
2) When removing the car seat from the base it gets stuck! ( I did the recall to fix the base, does not work) I feel like I'm gonna tear my rotator cuff muscles trying to get the seat off the base. The level to release the seat seems like its going to break, its made of plastic. I often worry about "what if" I had to take her out in an emergency situation and I can't because the seat always gets "stuck" to the base.
3) When I put the seat on the base I have to move it a couple of times to get it to "click".
4) The sun shade is a joke. It barely covers my kid. And you have to constantly put it at a certain place or it starts dragging on the floor and covers nothing.
5) Seat is not compatible with a lot of other strollers. I'm looking for a double stroller.
6) Lastly, its heavy!
This may seem like minimal complaints but it's a lot especially if you're trying to take care of a 2yr old and a newborn.

I love this seat. I see some had problems with their base and the way the seat fit in the base, but mine fits perfectly fine. The defect is probably fixed by now. On that note I find the seat quite simple to latch, and I love that it slides so easily into the foray stroller. The ONLY thing I wish I could change would be the sunshade. I wish it were bigger and gave more coverage. But I havent found many infant seats with large sunshades anyway. I would suggest this seat to any parent looking for a nice cozy seat.

Had I written this review when I first started using this I would've given it 5 stars however 9 months in I have this to say. My 9 month old who is small for his age (15 pounds, 27") no longer fits in this seat. The 5 point harness is difficult to latch up compared to the Graco that my friend has. It fits like a puzzle and then holding both pieces together you have to struggle to latch it. It was super convienent to remove from my car and pop into a Zapp stroller frame but I had expected to use this much longer than I did considering how much I paid for it ($169). Very disappointing especially when it states that it can be used up to 22 pounds which my baby is nowhere close to and 29 inches and he still has 2 inches to go. I would love to see someone try to fit a 22 pound 29inch baby into this seat. It would be next to impossible and I would bet money on it.

(Duplicate review) I have been struggling with this thing for the last 11 months. Now that we're finally moving onto a bigger seat I thought it would be a good time to write a review.
Like other people have said, this seat is great aesthetically. We got SO many complements on it. Plus I've never seen another one around, so it's rarity has made it a bit of a novelty. Ours is a vibrant blue color and black. But from what I can tell it isn't being manufactured in that color scheme anymore.
The frustration comes from it's functionality. For starters, taking the seat on and off of the base is MISERABLE! It usually takes several tries (and brute strength) to get the thing on or off. Because of this we never really used it as an infant carrier. It was just too much of a struggle. There is an adaptor available for snapping it into our bugaboo stroller, but I never bothered to get it because it was too hard to get the thing out of the base. However, that being said, there has been a recall on the base and I expect to have a new one soon. We'll see...
Unfortunately the recall does not include an improved buckle.
It's difficult to explain in words... but the bottom (crotch) portion of the 5 point harness is really hard to use. You have to hold both sides together, and then snap them into the buckle simultaneously. They are forever slipping apart, making it a challenge to buckle in a squirming kid. Also it has a tendency to catch the babies' clothing, and when this happens it won't snap. So, you have to pull the two (slippery) pieces together, push the babies' clothes out of the way, AND hold on to the buckle... all at the same time. It can be a challenge even when there is another adult there to help!
We have it in a VW Jetta, and while it fits there isn't any room to spare. Also the passenger in the front sear has to sit further forward than we would like in order to accommodate the baby seat in the (middle) back seat. Also, the few times we did carry it around as a carrier the sunshade fell down bellow the seat and ended up dragging along the ground. The only solutions were to remove it and carry it around with us separately, or to hold it up in your hand that is holding the handle (very awkward).
