"The firefighter who installed this seat did not recommend it" 2010-05-07
By S. Conner (Sacramento, CA United States)
We received two of these car seats for our baby at my baby shower. We made an appointment with our local firehouse to have the seats installed in each of our cars. The seat was easy to install in our Acura but it took the firefighter over an hour to install in our Lexus RX! The middle seat in the lexus did not have the hooks to attach to the car seat which is the preferred way to install, so the firefighter had to use the seatbelt to install it. It took him a very long time before it was secure enough and didn't move for him to be satisfied. He later admitted that he didn't like this kind and recommended Britax.

A few other reasons for the low rating:

Our baby doesn't like it. He cries on long trips (more than 45 minutes) and is always fidgeting in it.

There is no way to adjust the straps from the front, it has to be done from the back and it's not a simple strap to adjust. We constantly are adjusting it depending on whether baby is wearing a sweater and it's just more time for baby to sit there and get fussy while we adjust the straps yet again.

"Don't buy this version of the Snugride" 2010-01-30
By L. Humble (Beaverton, OR)
We ordered this carseat based on wanting a Graco Snugride and wanting a decent price. The seat arrived fine, no issues with the service. We were happy with this seat until we took it to a speciality store to be installed, and the guy working showed us the major flaw with this carseat (and reason why they dont sell this version in their store). The straps are not adjustable/moveable from the inside portion of the seat, but rather, the underneath side. So every single time you want to get baby in or get baby out of the seat, you have to flip the entire carseat over and manually feed the belt in and out. Most other Graco models have much easier tighten/loosen capabilities from inside the seat (where baby will sit). I am not about to flip this entire seat over and loosen these straps every time we want to use it, that is a complete nightmare. We purchased a new Graco Snugride today from the store (and spent $130, which is what we should have done to begin with). Save your money and buy a different version.

 "Love it!" 2010-01-14
By Katherine Veren (Dayton, Ohio)
I did quite a bit of research before buying a car seat. This one has lots of great things about it and a few drawbacks.

Likes:

It is so wonderful to be able to take my baby in and out of the car without waking her.

It is also wonderful that when she was little and could not sit in the buggy in the store she could just stay in her car seat and it snapped into the top part of the buggy.

It is so comfortable.

Dislikes:

It is kind of big for behind a seat. ( I have a 2001 Saturn 4 door sedan.)

My little girl has already grown out of it and she is a smaller baby.

And the buttons the move the handle are kind of hard to do when you have to press both sides...however I know that the handle will not shift when I do not want in to.

Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed this car seat and I think that Graco really hit the nail on the head with this product. Very well made and easy to clean. Also if you go with one of the bigger models like the snugride 32 or 35 it might last you until the first birthday!

Highly recommend!

"Seats work great for my family" 2010-01-01
By hirenpatelatl (Atlanta, GA)
My wife recently had boy/girl twins and these car seats work great for my family.

Most of my friends kids seem to out grow the 30lb car seats lengthwise before hitting 20lb mark. The added weight and price of the more expensive 30lb car seats by Graco just didn't make sense. These are relatively light which comes in handy when you need to carry two and fit perfectly into BabyTrend SnapNGo dual stroller. The combination of the BabyTrend SnapNGo plus these car seats makes going to public places (mall) very easy.

I chose to buy them from Amazon because I was having trouble finding gender neutral <30lb car seats in local Target, Walmart, BabiesRus stores. Got them from Amazon at comparable all-inclusive price.

"Very pleased with this carseat" 2009-10-19
By Kathryn Campbell (Nashville, TN)
I did lots of research on carseats before buying one for my new baby and of course, Graco Snugride brand was a top contender, especially for the price. I believe the Chicco carseat got higher reviews but I think it's also more expensive. I have a baby girl, but we bought this particular model because it's not too "boyish" even though it has blue in it and figured if we have another baby, it could work for either sex.

I thought the instructions for installing the car seat base were confusing but my husband popped it in right away! I think it's just that the LATCH system is confusing but you'll find that with any brand's car seat base system. Please note you should install the seat in the MIDDLE of the back seat not behind one of the front seats because it's the safest position. If you install it behind one of the front seats, you won't be able to push the seat back very far for those people who need leg room in the front!

I'd also looked into getting a convertible-type of car seat that could be used for a lot longer than these infant seats but now I can't imagine not being able to just move the baby undisturbed in and out of the car, especially when they're always sleeping in their car seat! Having to take a baby in and out of a car seat would be a nightmare!

My major CON about the Graco Snugride seat is the handle. What a pain it is to have to push the red buttons on both sides of the handle in order to adjust the handle to different positions. When trying to get the handle adjusted while in the car, you have to crawl into the backseat and get into a position where you can get a good grip on both sides of the handle and push both buttons in all the way, at the same time, and then pull the handle bar up or down....and you have to do this all at once It's tricky and the buttons don't give easily! I wish there was just one button to push on the top of the handle, which would release the handle. That's the number one complaint about the Graco seat!

I also never used the brown headrest that comes with the seat. It just looks cheap and the material doesn't seem very comfy--it seems rough. I bought a Kiddopotomus car seat insert that's super comfy and cradles my newborn in a soft material and it works very well in this seat. The canopy on the carseat has come in handy and moves into different positions easily.

Oh, and don't bother with the expensive travel system made to go with the Graco carseat....I bought a Snap N Go and it's WONDERFUL...user-friendly and inexpensive and the car seat just snaps right on the frame.

Overall, I'm very happy with this car seat.
