We have had two Britax car seats for our now 4 year old and have been very pleased with them. So for our new little one that will be here in a few weeks we decided to get the Britax infant carrier. I read the reviews and noted that many people indicated it wouldn't fit in their car. I did locate some reviews that indicated that was NOT the case for the Volvo XC 90. While it does fit with the passenger seat all the way forward - it does NOT meet the requirement of having no more than 20% of the base off of the seat. 20% of this seat would be 4.5 inches, it sits off of the seat 6.5 inches. Of course I'm left thinking, what car does this fit in? In short, it is being returned to the on-line company that we purchased it from.

I appreciate the quality of britax products. I have several other Britax models for my 5yr, 4yr and 2yr olds. I have had some issues with them but I still like Britax. I bought the chaperone when expecting my newest addition. I researched seats endlessly for 2 months. I read the good and bad on the chaperone, but in the end I bought it for the true SIP and anti-rebound bar.
I was concerned about the seat and base fitting in my vehicle. It works, though the front seat is moved forward some in my Chrysler Town and Country. One major flaw I found with the base is the adjustable leveling foot that is used to achieve the proper recline for the seat. The seat in my minivan is a captain's chair, therefore, there is a significant angle to the seat that has to be overcome for proper carrier recline. The problem for me was that when the foot is nearly fully extended down, it caused the base to become very unstable. The base could then slide side to side too easily. This foot is not the same quality as the base, in my opinion. I rectified this by not using the foot and instead using a pool noodle for leveling.
I will say that the seat is 3-4 pounds heavier than many other carriers. At first it was no big deal, but as baby grows, the weight along with the longer size of the seat can at times be a burden. Because the seat is longer, it is also sometimes an effort to maneuver through doorways at stores if there isn't anyone to hold the door for you.
Also, the longer size of the carrier does cause the top head end to fall backwards both with and without baby in it. I have to put the seat up against something (wall or in a chair# while strapping baby in.
As for the newborn insert, it was useful for about two weeks. But my son was born just shy of 7 pounds and it still seemed to make it more difficult #tight) to strap him in.
The release button for the tightening strap located under the material between the legs can be difficult to locate blindly with the fingers, as it seems to be set a little too far back. But not too big a deal.
The canopy covers about half the carrier and has velcro tabs at the head end. My complaint would be that it does'nt always stay in place, and when extended it does get in the way of the carry handle.
When removing the carrier from the base you do have to pull straight up. This is not a problem for me in my minivan.
The carrier drops into the base with ease for me.
The strap height adjustment is easy to use. And it is also very easy to strap my son into the seat as well as to take him out. I am however, somewhat concerned about the seat width, as my son grows it may become a squeeze as my children tend to be well filled out!
I have the cow print Chaperone. At first I

The Britax Chaperone is an awesome ugprade from our previous car seat, the Graco SafeSeat 32. While we liked the Graco fine, there are some unique features of the Britax that make life a little easier. First, my husband says adjusting the straps is a snap compared with the Graco (there is no threading required). He also was really impressed with the "quick release" latching mechanism (push button latch connectors) for installing the base. Instead of having to dig around in the car seat to find and release the hook from that bar deep under the seat, there is a button that you hit to release the hook and just pull it right out. How much easier that will make transferring the base to Grandma's car!
I was worried that because it's a little larger footprint that it would be heavier, but it does not seem to add weight and it's not too bulky to carry. (No one likes lugging these, but it's no worse than the Graco SafeSeat 32. It would be a lot larger than the smaller infant carriers). I really like the head rest. We had a Kiddopotomas "Snuzzler" in our other seat to keep our daughter's head from moving around. The Britax includes great support and is much safer for an impact because it has nice foam padding.
I really love the harness system and it's easier to hook in a squirmy baby. The bottom buckle is adjustable so we're not constantly digging it out from under our daughter and trying to pull it up to connect those two little hooks at the bottom. It's still very secure though - just easier to work. The material and finishing of the car seat is really very nice. The included canopy is extra large but not obtrusive when folded down. The fabric of the cover (cowmooflage) is a really good quality and is easy to remove for washing. There are built in strap covers that wipe off easily if you have any food spills on them.
The only con is that additional bases are $90. The pro about these bases is the anti-rebound bar - it minimizes gravitational forces (bouncing into the seat and back) in case of collision. It is easy to install (as previously discussed) and easy to adjust the seat height and angle.
Overall I highly recommend this car seat for the great safety features of the Britax as well as the quality and convenience of all the little "extras" and ease of use with this seat.

My son loves to sleep in this but it is way too big for the seat (we have a dodge grandcaravan sxt) shade keeps falling off the back (2 small pieces of velcro)It does seem comfortable but I am actually going to buy a different brand. Wish the base was not so big.

We bougtht his car seat to replace the baby trend seat we had from my daughter. My son hated to be in the carseat we tried so many things to try to make him happy when we finally broke down and bought a different carseat. The other car seats we have are Britax (Roundbouta nd Boulevard)and we and my daughter are vvery satisfied with them. So we decided that we would try this infant seat for our son. Its all about the seat, I think now. This seat is bigger then our older one and he seems to sit alittle more streched out like not so much crunched over like releaving some pressure on his little tummy. I think this helped him out since he suffers from acid reflux. The release for htis seat is on the head side of the seat as opposed to the foot which is nice but you have to lift the seat vertically straight up to release the seat. I find this seat is alittle difficult or awkward and a little heavy to carry. I have the one with the red and I like the colors and materials. I am overall very satisfied witht his seat. my little one is happy so I am happy.
