This product works well on our banister. We have one side that has wood and the other side that has wrought iron. It works wonderfully around them. Was fairly easy to put together. Would recommend, despite the cost.

Good concept poor design. I purchased the kit to install my dream baby gate at the bottom of the stairs. The kit comes in three pieces to help fit all banister sizes but with my banisters size it was either to big or to small. Also the screws that came with the kit were to short, I had to go and purchase my own screws that fit, granted they were only $1.00.

I have wooden spindle banisters. This was perfect. The top of mine is round, the bottom is square and I had no trouble. Very quick and easy. I didn't use the directions I just looked at the picture and figured it out.

I have to start out saying I was very worried when I ordered this kit based on the other reviews. We have wooden bannisters. They have larger squares on the bottom and are small and rounded at the top. The kit worked very well, although, I did need some help installing the kit on the side that holds the gate.
I am, however, disappointed that I had to order not one, but two of these kits given the price of the gate itself. There is a picture of the gate attached to a bannister on the box and that's why I bought it in the first place. That issue aside, my only concern now is that my VERY busy toddler might break the bannisters by pulling down on the gate (which wouldn't seem to be as much of an issue with a metal gate).

I wish I had listened to the review from "Disappointed" as it would have saved me a lot of frustration. Thinking I could "Jerry Rig" something together, all I did was manage to scrape paint off the banister. The Installation Kit doesn't work on square iron rod banisters. When I got it to a size that I thought fit, it doesn't hold and the bracket slides down! My husband couldn't get it tighten any more. Also the holes in the brackets don't match up to those on the gate.
